I have assigned this bug to both packages, until we can figure out
where the fix needs to happen.

Are they doing any tests on big-endian architectures?  Remember s390x
is our only big-endian release architecture, and r-cran-glltmb's
autopkgtests have green lights on all our little-endian architectures,
so this hints to an endianness bug to me.
