Package: r-bioc-biocgenerics
Severity: serious
X-Debbugs-CC: debian-release at lists.debian.org
Hello everybody,
The next release of Bioconductor is planned for the end of this month.
Upstream, Bioconductor packages are regression-tested within their release
only. As we can not take cross-release stability on our shoulders, we
have for some time made all r-bioc-* packages depend on a virtual package
called r-api-bioc-<versionnumber>. For this reason, each Bioconductor
release causes a transition in Debian.
In addition, this year, we are planning a big change for the R packages
maintained by the r-pkg-team: we will align our support to only the
architectural features supported upstream, which are 64-bit and little-endian.
This will tangle with the Bioconductor transition.
To clear the path forward, I am opening this RC bug against
r-bioc-biocgenerics, which provides r-api-bioc-3.20 at the moment, so that the
whole Bioconductor and its reverse dependencies are removed from Testing.
While I have not been able to inspect the reverse dependency network
of Bioconductor, I am confident that it is limited to bioinformatics
packages only, as Bioconductor itself is specialised in this area.
Have a nice day,
Charles
