I don't think any tool should modify the hosts sources.list... so the question
we're trying to solve and the answer(s) depend on the tool we're talking
about.

pbuilder does, though not the hosts sources.list.

I agree having seperate tools for seperate tasks is what we need here.
(And some of these tools are probably to be used in chroots, thus when used on
a host will modify the host system....)
