Hi!
While working on the “reproducible builds” effort [1], we have noticed
that wordwarvi could not be built reproducibly, by design, exposing one of the
very very few useful uses of capturing the build time (I have seen) :)
quoting from
https://sources.debian.net/src/wordwarvi/1.00%2Bdfsg1-3/wordwarvi.c/#L9947
/*
* A little joke for the programmers. If *you* built it
* from source less than 1 hour ago you get....
*
* a million bonus points.
*
* (Hey, the _very first_ thing the game tells you is
* "Uuuuse the Soooource!!!!" It's not kidding. :-)
*
*/
A solution to keep this joke *and* allow reproducible builds at the same time
would be to introduce a --distrobuild build switch which distributions could
use to disable it.
This could be a Debian specific patch at first, but ideally it should go
upstream, so that other distros can benefit too.
