Thanks a lot for all your (plural!) work on this!

Just one little thing: there is no tag "1.0". Also I slightly wonder how / 
when to increase the version number... IOW: is only e8ba01d2984 = 1.0 or is 
35e38e6a23 = 1.0 as well? Should we start a 1.1 branch now?
