Hi,

afaik Mattia is happy to be the contact person for reproducible Debian here
and he's still looking for co-mentors. Please raise your hands for this! :)

Hey everyone!

While our current Outreachy interns[1] are completing their December-March
internships, it's (already) time for Debian to get ready for the next round.

For the next few months, Debian is preparing for two internship programs, whose
schedules run concurrently:

- Outreachy[2,3] helps people from groups underrepresented in free and open source
software get involved. We provide a supportive community for beginning to
contribute any time throughout the year and offer focused internship
opportunities twice a year with a number of free software organizations.

- Google Summer of Code[4,5] is a global program focused on bringing more student
developers into open source software development. Students work with an open
source organization on a 3 month programming project during their break from
school.

[5] https://wiki.debian.org/SummerOfCode2017?

Both programs will be running from February-March (intern application period) to August
(completion of internships).

We just applied as a mentoring organization to Google Summer of Code, and we
have just confirmed funding for an internship in the next round of Outreachy.
It is now time for the Debian community to come together and prepare some
project ideas for the prospective interns that are bound to flood our gates in
the next few weeks.

As additions this year, we ask that all projects be supervised by at least two
mentors, and that mentors give their prospective interns some "test" task
during the application process to assess whether the intern would be a good
fit. No worries, your favorite Outreach Team will be around to help you
throughout the process.

If you're ready to take eager new contributors under your wing for the next few
months, then feel free to submit a project idea on the dedicated page[6]. Let
us know about your proposed projects on the debian-outreach mailing list[7].

Thanks!
