Hi folks

I have two problems - hope somebody can help.

1) Weird vertical stripes when scanning
    See http://www.emptynet.demon.co.uk/vertical_stripes.pnm

I am delighted that my scanner is recognised by sane, but sadly the
results of a scan are unusable due to the colour bands that are
    uniformly spread down the page.

I assume that there is nothing I can do, but here's my setup in case
    somebody has any ideas:

Macintosh G4/400 running Yellow Dog Linux 2.1 (2.4.10-something)
    xsane-0.77
    sane-backends-1.05
    sane-frontends-1.05

2) When I downloaded the sane-frontends and sane-backends version 1.06,
I tried to compile the backends first, and get the following error:

> make[1]: Entering directory `/home/michthom/sane-backends-1.0.6/tools'
> gcc -o umax_pp umax_pp.o ../backend/umax_pp_low.o ../sanei/libsanei.a
> ../lib/liblib.a -lnsl -lm -ljpeg
> ../backend/umax_pp_low.o: In function `Outb':
> /home/michthom/sane-backends-1.0.6/backend/umax_pp_low.c:642: undefined
> reference to `outb'
> /home/michthom/sane-backends-1.0.6/backend/umax_pp_low.c:642: relocation
> truncated to fit: R_PPC_REL24 outb
> ../backend/umax_pp_low.o: In function `Inb':
> /home/michthom/sane-backends-1.0.6/backend/umax_pp_low.c:699: undefined
> reference to `inb'
> /home/michthom/sane-backends-1.0.6/backend/umax_pp_low.c:699: relocation
> truncated to fit: R_PPC_REL24 inb
> collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
> make[1]: *** [umax_pp] Error 1
> make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/michthom/sane-backends-1.0.6/tools'
> make: *** [all-recursive] Error 1

I'm assuming that this has something to do with the bug report posted
    here:

> From: Michael Weber (michaelw@debian.org)
> Subject: Bug#114579: sane-backends_1.0.5-3(unstable): build failure on powerpc
> Newsgroups: debian.bugs.dist

> =l4zo753o25.fsf%40seti.org

Is there any way to disable the umax backend build so I can see if the
microtek2 backend in 1.06 fixes my problem?

Thanks for any help you can give me.
