XSANE GIMP plugin troubles (was: [sane-devel] XSANE 0.80 compilation problems)

I installed libusb*-devel package and now the installation & compilation went 
smoothly. I didn't need to use the  --disable-sanetest option. But now I have 
another problem: XSANE refuses to work as gimp plugin. The configure script 
said "GIMP support enabled" or something like that, but xsane doesn't appear 
anywhere in the gimp menus. I've put symlinks to xsane in the plug-ins 
directories.  I tried deleting the pluginrc file and re-starting gimp - 
didn't help. Grateful for any help,
