[sane-devel] Umax Astra 610P

LO folks, newbie to scanners & Linux box here. 
I'm running SuSE Linux 7.1 pro on a Fujitsu Myrica Plus P233X with 64M Ram.
I also have a UMAX Astra 610P, which, according to

I have two q's.
q1. Is this EVER gonna work?
q2. Does anyone have a) the time, b) the patience to talk a newbie(windows 
convert) through the parport business?
