From a USB snoopy log taken during scanner plug-in under
Status: O

windows I figured out part of the USB transfer protcol.
I wrote a simple tool to retrieve the scanner's version
string. It's at

It demonstrates basic capability to communicate with the scanner
under Linux, but it's still very far from a sane backend.
