I never heard of a "Agfa 2e" before, so I can't give you any specific hints. 
Concerning the snapscan backend take a look at 
http://snapscan.sourceforge.net. You can also create a debug output by 
setting SANE_DEBUG_SNAPSCAN to 255, maybe this'll give you some additional 
hints.
