I am having exactly this problem with an HP 2300c. I get as far as
insmod pt_drv failed
after seeing
/lib/modules/2.4.18-19.7.x/misc/pt_drv.o: init_module: Success

According to the post, a solution was found to this problem a year ago, 
but there is no mention of where the documentation regarding the solution 
is located. Can someone please point me in the right direction?
