  Hi René,

I installed the latest sane-backends (with your latest patch)
look at this :
[root@mozilla root]# sane-find-scanner /dev/sg1
# Note that sane-find-scanner will find any scanner that is connected
# to a SCSI bus and some scanners that are connected to the Universal
# Serial Bus (USB) depending on your OS. It will even find scanners
# that are not supported at all by SANE. It won't find a scanner that
# is connected to a parallel or proprietary port.

sane-find-scanner: found SCSI scanner "hp scanjet 7400c 0.8B" at device
/dev/sg1
sane-find-scanner: found USB scanner (UNKNOWN vendor and product) at
device /dev/sg1

# `UNKNOWN vendor and product' means that there seems to be a scanner
# at this device file but the vendor and product ids couldn't be
# identified. Currently identification only works with Linux versions
# >= 2.4.8.

while yesterday with older sane (1.0.5) this command worked fine. But at
the end I have the same result :

xsane /dev/sg1 gives an error telling me that he can't open device
/dev/sg1 (of course the device is attached to that file)

xscanimage -L never respond, I can't even kill it (with kill -9)

hope that can help, I hgave the scanner and I'm ready to make every test
you need :)

PS : I'm not that good in C :(
