Ooops. The only code from sane that's used by sane-find-scanner here
is sanei_scsi.c. The hp backend is not involved. So maybe /dev/scanner
points to your USB scanner or something else? Remove the link and try
again.
If I create a link /dev/scanner --> /dev/usb/scanner0 I don't get a
segfault but a freeze of sane-find-scanner. But this may be because of
different scanners.
