And what's the output of "cat /proc/bus/usb/devices"?
Maybe your scanner wasn't detected by the kernel scanner driver.

Looks fine.

Probably chmod not mknod.

See INSTALL. Gimp libs and headers must have been installed. If you
think they are, have a look at the error message about gimp some lines
above in the configure output and in config.log.
