Thanks, Oliver, That was exactly what I wanted to know!

I had actually tried using the cursor keys under XSane 0.77, but that didn't work.
Then I upgraded to 0.84, and now I'm happy :-)))

Henning's suggestion also sounds interesting, but more complicated...
