netinet/in.h is quite old (1996) here and contains:

extern  u_long      inet_addr(__const__ char*);

It compiles but it seems to me a type mismatch

because config.h contains:

/* Define to `unsigned int' if <sys/types.h> doesn't define. */
#define u_int32_t unsigned int
