[sane-devel] Suggestions for a scanner

I'm new to sane and but from what i can tell it looks like a great endeavor.

I'm working on a project that needs a portable scanner that will be connected to a linux machine.  Sane would work perfectly, however, I am looking for a lightweight USB scanner that has a backend already written for it.  Is there one available?  

Two concerns  for this project:

1. Must be USB and not require an AC power source
2. Must be portable.
