Can anyone help me to configure the following for Redhat 7.2 ?
A Benq/Acer 3300 u (USB scanner)
I deleted an earlier sane and installed backend and frontends 1.0.8
I didn't install Xsane yet.
I can't get sane-find-scanner to find anything
Same problem with scanimage -L
I've tried a lot of things
What should I check? Please list as many as possible.
I think the USB setup may need fine tuning.
I can insttall ausb module using insmod scanner and get :
[root at localhost root]# insmod scanner
Using /lib/modules/2.4.7-10/kernel/drivers/usb/scanner.o
I think I installed firmware (2 binary file posibilities and 2 possibilities
for vendor and user ID numbers but one particular pair of numbers is detected
by the system. I edited the snapscan.con file to point to the firmware binary.
I also did the following:
When using a USB scanner, ensure that the access permis
sions for the USB device are set appropriately. We recom
mend to add a group "scanner" to /etc/group which contains
all users that should have access to the scanner. The
permission of the device should then be set to allow group
read and write access. For example, if the scanner is at
USB device /dev/usb/scanner0, then the following two com
mands would set the permission correctly:
$ chgrp scanner /dev/usb/scanner0
$ chmod 660 /dev/usb/scanner0
The system detects it
------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have detected a uhci based controller but think more configuration may be
needed here.
Should I use dev/ttyUSB0 or /dev/usb/scanner0 ?? Does it matter?
Any advice would be most welcome before I go Insane.
What should I check or do?
John Bonner.
