I am trying to get an Agfa Snapscan e52 working with sane. The snapscan
backend homepage says that it partially works with this scanner.  I am
wondering what I am doing wrong.

As you can see, the last entry is the Agfa scanner.

I'm using usbmgr to automagically detect devices when they are plugged
in. There was no line for this product id in the configuration file
(/etc/usbmgr/usbmgr.conf), so I added the following line:

vendor 0x06bd product 0x20fd module scanner

Detection seems to work okay, usbmgr beeps when I plug the scanner in.
USB debug output says it loaded the scanner module correctly.  I am
running a 2.4.18 kernel on an SMP Athlon system, debian unstable install.

I wasn't quite sure what I should do about devices, so I looked through
the mailing list archives and tried:

mknod /dev/usbscanner0 c 180 48
ln -s /dev/usbscanner0 /dev/usbscanner
chmod 666 /dev/usbscanner0

Then I tried an actual command:

No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different,
check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the
sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation
which came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages).
[snapscan] sane_snapscan_exit

The command sane-find-scanner does not find any scanners either.


To me it looks like the snapscan is finding some sort of SCSI device, my
cd-rw perhaps?

Does anyone know what else I could try?
