[sane-devel] Problems with PSC 500. Please help.

I have installed and configured the software according with the 
instructions, but I can not get the scanner to transmit images.

xsane tells me: NO DEVICES AVAILABLE
scanimage --test says: scanimage: no SANE devices found

When I do "ptal-hp mlc:par:0 device", i get this:

Which means that somehow I do have connectivity with the scanner.

Also, when I do 

ptal-connect mlc:par:0 -scan

The scanner moves a bit, but does not do anything. I have to press CTRL+C 
after a while to get to the console.

Mi conf looks like this:

option connect-ptal


What am I missing ? HELP !!!!!!!!!!
