Well, as the qcam backend only work on Linux and FreeBSD, and require
root privileges to access the hw ioports directly, the fact that it
need special privileges to create a lock in /var/lock/ should be of
less importance.

Do both Linux and *BSD use /var/lock/?

(The qcam driver is probably obsolete as well.  Perhaps it just should
be removed?  Is there anyone actually using it instead of using the
v4l backend instead?)
