Not sure how much this helps, but it looks like something is forcing 0xff
into every other byte of the inquiry. Hardware problems? Cabling problems?
Do you have anything else on the SCSI chain, and can you talk to it?
With my E6, the Vendor Name is ' ' and the Model Name is
'Scanner 600 '. It looks like yours would have the same Vendor
Name and Model Name of 'Scanner ' if every other byte weren't
clobbered.
