I don't know the fujitsu backend in detail so please send such
questions to the sane-devel mailinglist or to the authors of the
fujitsu backend (mentioned in the man page).

Generally speaking:
The frontends usually don't have any special support for the ADF. The
user selects an option, e.g. sets source to "ADF" instead of "flatbed".

If you do scanimage --help, you should be able to find the option(s)
you need to set. Have a look at the SANE standard on the SANE website:
http://www.mostang.com/sane/html/ . It explains how to get option
descriptors and how to set options.
