The solution of your problem may depend on the model. On a ScanJet 6200C you take off the cover and remove 4 Torx screws at the corners of the top surface. The two screws near the front end are concealed by plastic covers which can be removed with a small screw driver or a bent paper clip. Regards, Ulrich Deiters
