[sane-devel] scanimage: sane_start: Out of memory

Dear Rene and Henning,

I have dowloaded the last version for avision backend written by Rene on
2003-02-07 and make a full rebuild of sane-backends and sane-frontends:
make uninstall; make distclean; configure; make; make install.
Then I've run some tests (with reboot after each failure to ensure fresh
system) and it is only working with 100dpi resolution.
See below the details of my tests. I can run all additionnal tests you
will need. The kernel is still 2.4.20 on RedHat 7.2.


scanimage --device avision:/dev/scanner --resolution 50 >toto.50dpi.pnm
Works but the output is distorted


scanimage --device avision:/dev/scanner --resolution 100
>toto.100dpi.pnm
OK


scanimage --device avision:/dev/scanner --resolution 200
>toto.200dpi.pnm
fails (after timeout ?) with:
  "scanimage: sane_start: Error during device I/O"
and dmesg reports:
  "scsi: device set offline - command error recover failed: host 1
channel 0 id 0 lun 0"
No output is performed in toto.200dpi.pnm

Then, successive attempts returns :
scanimage: open of device avision:/dev/scanner failed: Error during
device I/O

using SANE_SG_BUFFERSIZE=262144 as suggested by Henning lead to the same
result.
