[sane-devel] How to do the source modification?

Hi, 

I have just started working on SANE and LINUX. 

Can anybody let me know that if i want to add something in the source code of SANE backend or XSANE then how to go about that? I mean if i want to add my additions too in the latest SANE or XSANE release then how to go about that????
