Did you by any chance upgrade this system from RHL7.1? 'cause RHL7.1
came with sane-1.0.3...

Anyway, here's what I would try now:

- Remove the "known" old sane related packages:

  rpm -e sane-backends sane-frontends xsane sane-backends-devel

  (as root, of course)


- Run the rpm test again to see what happens:

  rpm -ivh --test /home/satimis/Download/Sane/i586/*.rpm

  ('i' instead of 'U' as there shouldn't be any sane packages left -
  hence it's not an 'U'pdate)


- report back about the result.
