Where on earth did you get that sane-1.0.3 RPM from? It was not among
the ones you listed as downloaded in your original mail! So, why are
you installing it? As I mentioned in my earlier mails, "sane-1.0.3" is
an *older* version of sane - but you've already successfully installed
1.0.10/1.0.11 - you've said so yourself above. Forget that package!
> 2) Shall I install "xsane-gimp-0.90-1.i586.rpm" also
Only if you intend to use xsane from within gimp. Hint: If you're not
sure about the contents of an RPM, run "rpm -qip PACKAGE.rpm", which
will give you some information. I'd also *strongly* recommend to get
familiar with the rpm man page "man rpm".
> 3) Shall do something on /etc/sane.d/snapscan.conf
Do you have a snapscan scanner? If so, I'd try first without changing
anything and see what happens.

Yes. You've successfully installed the newer sane packages, so no
reason not to.
MIND YOU: The whole problem ONLY occurred because you didn't supply
full information - you never mentioned that there was a sane-1.0.3 RPM
in your directory as well as the ones you mentioned in your original
mail. If you HAD mentioned it, the whole uninstall business would have
been unnecessary!
Cheerio,
