Is there a standard how SCSI commands can be sent via an USB connection?

Yes, that could work, if a driver exists for such a device, or if the 
backend knows how to send SCSI commands via such a USB/SCSI converter. 
But as I understood Andre, he was looking for some sort of 
out-of-the-box solution for a Umax scanner, and I'm afraid that we can't 
offer that,
