A very interesting idea, because rather than scanning the
negative directly, as in a normal transparency adaptor you would
be scanning something much larger. As you will not be pushing the
scanner to it's limit you have the potential to get a much better
quality scan as well, assuming that you a decent

Does the manual come with any sort of pin out? My guess is that it is
more than just a short because otherwise a 3.5mm mono jack would
be sufficient to carry the power for the negative backlight and you
can get 3.5mm sockets with built in switches so you can detect when
stuff is plugged in. This would be much cheaper than any 15pin
connector going.

Is there anyone willing to take a closer look at the photo adaptor?
