Hi everyone,

There are still quite some backend homepages and other SANE-related
pages that point to http://www.mostang.com/sane/ (or panda.mostang.com
or mostang.com).

Please update your links (and bookmarks) to the new SANE homepage:

http://www.sane-project.org

While speaking about sane-project.org here are some more news and
mixed facts:

- The SANE FTP server is still ftp.mostang.com and that won't be
  changed for now.

- The development CVS server can also be used over the web, e.g. to
check when exactly one file was changed or to read the ChangeLog.
There are even three different ways to access the CVS server by the
  WWW: http://alioth.debian.org/scm/?group_id=1308

- The HTML pages for sane-project.org are kept in CVS. Well, most of
them. Some are generated automatically (see below). Every SANE developer
with CVS access can change them. The web sites that are in CVS will
display the last developer who changed them and the date of the
  change like this:

  $Date: 2003/09/25 13:21:11 $ $Author: hmg-guest $

- The HTML documentation for the sanei functions is on
  sane-project.org now (http://www.sane-project.org/sanei/). It's
automatically updated when something in the include/sane directory
  is changed in CVS.

- The list of devices for CVS and external backends are automatically
generated from CVS whenever a .desc file is changed.

- The scanner search engine doesn't use the new CVS server yet so the
data is outdated. It will take some time to fix that.

- CVS snapshots are automatically generated from CVS once a day
  (http://www.sane-project.org/snapshots/). Please don't use the
snapshots on sane.informatik.uni-freiburg.de, despite their current
file date, they haven't been updated for weeks.

- We have currently 118 bugs (100 are open) in our bug tracking system:
  https://alioth.debian.org/tracker/?group_id=1308
If you are a maintainer of a backend or other SANE developer please
get an account at alioth and contact me for addition to the project.
Even if you don't have time for coding at the moment, we can assign
bugs to you, e.g. for your backend. So it's easier to fix them later.

- The archive of the sane-devel mailing list is now at it's final
  location: http://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/sane-devel/

- The mailing list search engine doesn't index the new archive so you
won't find articles written during the last month. It will take some
  time to fix that.

- The sane-devel mailing list currently has about 700 subscribers,
about 600 of them are enabled.

- sane-devel gets about 70 messages per day that are not posted
automatically. About 95 % is spam, 4% is viruses and 1% are
legitimate postings from addresses not subscribed to sane-devel.
I try to check the logs every day or every second day but I may
accidently delete messages if their subjects aren't very meaningfull
(like "Hi!"). If the list software wouldn't insist on beeing
subscribed to the list before allowing the posting, all the spam
  would go to the list.

Bye,
  Henning
