 one thing to try: please let the user enable te debug messages for the epson
backend and for the dll stuff, I'd like to see if the installation of all the
stuff is correctly - here on my it happens, that the links to the libs still
point to the old backends, while the newer ones have been installed. Maybe one
option for the user is not to replace the rpm using -Uhv but first to remove
the old SANE installation and then using the new one.

I've tested that on my 2.4 box and it works w/o problems
