Well, the backend doesn't know your version obviously. 

As far as I can see from the source code, you can disable the check
for the version by defining NO_STRING_VERSION_MATCH when compiling the
hp5400 backend. E.g. by adding "#define NO_STRING_VERSION_MATCH" to
the top of ./backend/hp5400_internal.c or by doing a 
CPPFLAGS=-DNO_STRING_VERSION_MATCH ./configure.

I don't have such a scanner and this is pure guessing.
