There should be no spaces at the beginning of the line. Also this line 
will only work if "agfafirm" is the renamed "Snapscan e20.bin" from 
the windows driver installation.

You shouldn't need this line.

The file permission on /proc/bus/usb/001/* are not set correctly, the 
backend cannot open the device files through libusb. Either correct 
the permissions or use the scanner kernel module 
("modprobe scanner vendor=0x06bd product=0x2091"). In your first post 
you used the kernel module, since the scanner was detected at 
/dev/usb/scanner0.
