[sane-devel] Microtec ScanMaker E3 hardware problems

Slightly off topic but may be someone had similar experience. My scanner
suddently died. Green light comes up, head gets moved to source position
and light immediatelly goes out. Stepper motor works fine both ways.
SCSI interface operational but does not present itself as a scanner.

Questions.
1. is there a diagnostics utility for this scanner?
2. if I should abandone it and buy a replacement what are my options?
