[sane-devel] xsane preview window

I'm running xsane-.97 and gimp-2.2 and having problems with the preview 
window. If I start xsane as a user either by 
$ xsane
or by selecting it from the file> aquire menu in gimp, the preview
window 
opens very briefly and then closes. I can find no menu option like in 
previous versions to open the preview.
Interestingly, if I start xsane or gimp as root, the preview stays open.
Any 
ideas?
