Hi,

here are some things to try/clarify:

- when using scanimage, the default scansize is 126x76 mm
- try using libusb even on 2.4.2x kernels I don't think that the
  scanner module is a good idea.
- use libusb-0.1.8 or 0.1.10 - 0.1.9 seems to be buggy
- disable all the backends but plustek
- for getting debug information from the plustek backend, try:
  export SANE_DEBUG_PLUSTEK=20

I'm pretty sure, that this is a USB problem and not backend related.
