[sane-devel] CanoScan LiDE 25 problem

Hello

I read the email exchange regarding LiDE 25 in the july 2005 sane-devel 
mailinglist archives but could not understand if the problem was really 
resolved at that time. I also read the september and october email exchanges 
on sane-devel regarding LiDE 25 and tried my best to understand them but I 
have a hard time doing so. It seems I need a patch for plustek? And that I 
can get this patch via CVS, whatever that is? It was obvious to me from the 
beginning that the most up-to-date software is on the CVS page, but since I 
am totally unfamiliar with CVS I stayed away from it.

If someone would mercifully have a look at what I have tried up tilll now and 
give me a hint on what I need to do next I would be extremely grateful...

I use SuSE 9.3 
YaST recognizes the scanner but it is not on the list of scanners, so setting 
up plustek via YaST doesn't work. 

I gathered from the mailing list archives that LiDE 25 support was added only 
recently, so I first tried getting newer SANE versions via YaST. When that 
did not help I uninstalled the SANE packages for SuSE 9.3 that I got via YaST 
and got the latest one from the SANE web site instead.

I downloaded 

plustek-usb-0.50-4.tar.gz

and 

sane-backends-1.0.16.tar.gz 

and followed install instructions to the letter.

But when I am all done, whether I do:

modprobe scanner

or:

modprobe scanner vendor=0x04a9 product=0x2220

the result is always:

FATAL: Module scanner not found.

When I do:

sane-find-scanner

the scanner is found:

and when I do:

I have edited the plustek configuration file (in my case it 
is /etc/sane.d/plustek.conf), adding the lines:

and still the same results.

If I first do:

export SANE_DEBUG_DLL=12

and then do:

scanimage -L

I guess the relevant lines here are:

(or did miss something else?)

But what is sanei_access_lock and why does it fail?

This seems to be the same problem identified by Gerhard Jaeger in his email to 
this list on Mon Jul 18 08:26:58 UTC 2005.
I have not tried the solution he proposed yet because from what I understood 
from a subsequent email it did not entirely resolve the problem. The proposed 
solution (reinstalling with configure --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc 
--localstatedir=/var) seems to have been superseded by some later proposals, 
which I don't understand or don't have the skills to apply -or has it?
