Does this happen with sane-backends 1.0.16?

Is there a way to generate a debug log when using the
Twain-Sane-Bridge? For scanimage and bash this would look like this:

export SANE_DEBUG_GT68XX=255
scanimage >image.pnm 2>log.txt
