[sane-devel] How to access "Networked" scanner, not local scanner on networked PC

I've got a Brother MFC-5840CN for which Brother
provides a Sane driver for network users.  During
setup Brother instructs to run : 

brsaneconfig2 -a name=FRIENDLY-NAME model=MODEL-NAME
ip=xx.xx.xx.xx

which I did. 

After much searching, it appears this provides access
for a local USB scanner to the network, instead of
access to a stand-alone scanner plugged into the
network.

Anybody know about this?
