Could you use the "standard default" location for the firmware files,
i.e. @DATADIR@/sane/<backend name> (see e.g. artec_eplus48u.conf.in) and
then add epjitsu to the FIRMWARE_DIRS in backends/Makefile.in so that
this directory gets created.
