Kodak i40 with scanimage

Hello everyone!!
I'm trying to make my USB scanner Kodak i40 to work.
I have OpenSuse 10.2 installed that comes with SANE (backend version
1.0.18).
Problem #1
scan-find-scanner can see my scanner, by scanimage -L can not.
Problem #2
I run scanner configuration utility in Yast2 as root and manually associate
my scanner with avision driver.
After that scanimage -L can see the scanner, but scanimage -T reports I/O
error after long delay.
xscan have the same problem.
Afterwards configuration utility shows two entries (one the scanner but
without driver and another with avision driver but without scanner)
and scanimage -L reports not scanners attached.
Question
Should SANE automatically detect (=associate) appropriate driver having
detected USB scanner (i.e. having manufacturer id 0x040a and product id
0x6002 in my case)
so I do not have to use scanner config utility? Am I missing something in
configuration?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Victor Likhachov
