It seems the best of my knowledge was not good enough :-(.
The epson backend maintainer, Karl Heinz Kremer, has sent me some
pictures that show a "gap" between the edge and the start of the scan
area. The width of the gap varies with the model and in some cases is
quite small. Karl's pictures were for the:
Perfection 1200
Perfection 2450 PHOTO
Perfection 3200 PHOTO
Perfection 4870 PHOTO
Stylus Photo RX600
Perfection V700
