[sane-devel] Problems with Canon Pixma MP500 on Buffalo Linkstation

Hello Wittawat,

I have checked scanner access with the Ubuntu 6.10 release
and the current stable SANE distribution on a standard I386
desktop and it works perfectly (so it is not a problem with
the device in principle).

For clarification: The linkstation is a network attached
storage and print server based on MIPS with a HardHat Linux
distribution delivered with it. I have already installed
CUPS for printing and it can reliably access the printer
part of the multifunction MP500. (I can tinker with the
distribution somehow but would not like to replace it
completely.)

When starting to scan the scanner motor sounds on the
linkstation, but does not move further.

Comparing the debug output of the successful scan on the
Ubuntu Desktop and the linkstation I find the following
difference at the problematic section:

Failed scan on HardHat MIPS:

I assume that "INTR" means interrupt, doesn't it? One
possible explanation for the error is that the linkstation
does not react to some device interrupt by the scanner.

Is this protocol for the Pixma different to other scanners?
I know that some people seem to have sucessfully installed
SANE on a linkstation...

		Best regards
