[sane-devel] scanimage -T hangs forever

I have a Canon FB630U sacnner and a problem with it under Slackware 10.

Do a:
$ scanimage -L
device `canon630u:/dev/usb/scanner0' is a CANON Canoscan FB630U flatbed 
scanner

so the scanner is found.
But  do:
$scanimage -T -d canon630u:/dev/usb/scanner0

and it just hangs. Hit CNTRL-C
scanimage: received signal 2
scanimage: trying to stop scanner

hit CNTL-C again:
scanimage: received signal 2
scanimage: aborting

Now, this is not the device not available error, I removed the 
/tmp/canon.config file.

So, why is the scanner not working?
