What is the current status on the Canon LiDE 500F support? The most
recent messages I can find are from about a year ago, and indicate that
it is a work in progress. (The 500F has a GL841 chip, which should be
supported by the genesys backend.)
As an LiDE 500F owner (bought when I was using Windows) I would like it
to be supported in the near future. I tried using the scanner in a
virtual machine running Windows XP, under VMware Server and under
VirtualBox. Both did not work.
I tried adding the 500F as a clone of the LiDE 60 in genesys_devices.c
(with the correct device ID), but after compiling and installing the
adapted version, the scanner was still not found. It is detected by
sane-find-scanner (found USB scanner (vendor=0x04a9 [Canon],
product=0x221f [CanoScan], chip=GL841) at libusb:001:012), but not by
scanimage.
I am not a device driver programmer, but I am willing to provide someone
with information that could help supporting the LiDE 500F by SANE. Or
else I would have to buy a new scanner ;-(
