[sane-devel] Installing scanbuttond on Mac OS X?

After installing I get the following when I start scanbuttond:

Mac-Pro:bin wavefront$ ./scanbuttond
Unable to load backend library "/usr/local/lib/libscanbtnd- 
backend_meta.so"!

Now I know the support wiki states to run ldconfig to prevent this.   
Now on Mac OS X I can't seem to find a fix for this (there is no  
ldconfig on OS X).  I recall way back when on a previous software  
install I had the same issue but I can't remember how to fix this on  
OS X.

Any ideas?
