I tried , SANE_DEBUG_GT68XX=4 xsane 2> mt1200.log
But it does not produce any output.
Do I need to ./configure something with the debug switch enabled?

The version of xsane I have is - could this be a problem?
--------------------------------------
$ xsane --version
xsane-0.89 (c) 1998-2002 Oliver Rauch
  Email: Oliver.Rauch at xsane.org
  package xsane-0.89
  compiled with GTK-2.2.0
  without GIMP support
--------------------------------------
Thanks.
