Above all, you need an office scanner with an ADF unit, or a
standalone unit that will just drop a PDF on a network share. Office
copiers do that nowadays...

Given you've thrown the previous one out the window, now would be a
good time to fill out that request and send it to your boss ;)

There's also scanbuttond and similar that could help with a flatbed
scanner and some scripting.
